Last year, 2015, a total of 14 banks were closed down by the BSP and put into receivership by the PDIC. All were rural banks.

1.  Rural Bank of Villaviciosa Inc.
     –  First bank to be closed down in 2016
     –  Office along National Road, Poblacion, Villaviciosa, Abra
     –  Closed down by the BSP on January 7, 2016
     –  Taken over by the PDIC on January 8, 2016

2.  Lapu-Lapu Rural Bank, Inc.
     –  Office address at Sta. Catalina St., Brgy. Poblacion II
                Carcar City, Cebu
     –  Closed down by the BSP on January 28, 2016
     –  Taken over by the PDIC on January 29, 2016

3.  Rural Bank of Bayawan (Negros Oriental), Inc.
     –  Office address at 807 H. Bollos Sr. St.,
           Bayawan City, Negros Oriental
     –  Closed down by the BSP on February 24, 2016
     –  Taken over by the BSP on February 26, 2016

4.  Rural Bank of Basay (Negros Oriental), Inc.
     –  Office address at 525 South Pacific Bldg., Gov. M. Perdices St.
             Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental
     –  Closed down by the BSP on March 3, 2016
     –  Taken over by the PDIC on March 4, 2016

5.  Progress Savings and Loan Bank, Inc.
      –  Office address at No. 158 National Highway, Poblacion,
              Subic, Zambales

      –  This savings bank was not closed down by the BSP. It voluntarily 
          surrendered its banking license. It requested the revocation 
          and cancellation of its banking license and it was approved 
          by the BSP on March 3, 2016.

6.  Rural Bank of Panay, Inc.
     –  Head Office address at Poblacion Ilaya
           Panay, Capiz
     –  Had 1 branch, located at Pontevedra, Capiz
     –  Closed down by the BSP on March 10, 2016
     –  Taken over by the PDIC on March 11, 2016

7.  Koronadal Rural Bank, Inc.
     –  Head Office address at Alunan Ave.
           Koronadal City, South Cotabato
     –  Had 2 branches, located at:
             Gen. Luna, Digos City
            Sto. Niño, Koronadal City
     –  Closed down by the BSP on March 10, 2016
     –  Taken over by the PDIC on March 11, 2016

8.  Rural Bank of Malinao (Aklan), Inc.
     –  Office address at San Juan St., Brgy. Poblacion
            Malinao, Aklan
     –  Had 5 branches:
        – Bermejo St., Poblacion, Cabatuan, Iloilo
        – 19 Martyrs St., Brgy. Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan
        – Madalag Public Market, Poblacion, Madalag, Aklan
        – National Road, Brgy. Caticlan, Malay, Aklan
        – National Highway, Poblacion, Tangalan, Aklan
     – Closed down by the BSP: March 22, 2016
     – Taken over by the PDIC: March 23, 2016

9.  Surigao City Evergreen Rural Bank, Inc.
     – Office address at 03337 Borromeo St.
            Surigao City
     – Closed down by the BSP: April 14, 2016
     – Taken over by the PDIC: April 15, 2016

10.  Rural Bank of Amadeo (Cavite), Inc.
     –  Head Office address at 111 A. Mabini St.
              Brgy. 1 (Poblacion), Amadeo, Cavite
     –  Had one branch in Magallanes, Cavite
     –  Closed down by the BSP on May 13, 2016
     – Taken over by the BSP on May 13, 2016

11.  GSIS Family Bank (A Thrift Bank)
                also named Comsavings Bank 
        –  Head Office address at 2nd Floor AIC Grande Tower
             Ortigas Center,  Garnet Road, Brgy. San Antonio, Pasig
        –  Had 21 branches: 11 in Cavite, 2 in Laguna,
             2 in Las Pinas,  and 1 each in Makati, Muntinlupa,
               Paranaque,  Quezon City, Pasig and Bulacan
        –  GSIS owned 99.5% of the bank; 0.5% was owned by
                the Dragon family of Cavite      
        –  Closed down by the BSP on May 13, 2016
        –  Taken over by the BSP on May 13, 2016

12.   New Rural Bank of Binalbagan (Negros Occidental), Inc.
        – Office address at National Highway, Brgy. Progreso,
           Binalbagan, Negros Occidental
        –  Closed down by the BSP on June 9, 2016
        –  Taken over by the BSP on June 10, 2016

13.  Rural Bank of Siaton (Siaton, Negros Oriental), Inc.
       –  Office address at KM. 50, National Highway, Brgy. Poblacion
             Siaton, Negros Oriental
       –  Closed down by the BSP on July 7, 2016
       –  Taken over by the PDIC on July 8, 2016

14.  Rural Bank of Cabadbaran (Agusan), Inc.
       –  Head Office address at Garame cor. Cabiltes Sts.,
                          City of Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte
       –  Had 3 branches:
            San Francisco St., Butuan City
            Cagayan de Oro City
            Micro Banking Office, Mootumul St., Gingoog City
       –  Closed down by the BSP on July 28, 2016
       –  Taken over by the PDIC on July 29, 2016

15.  Rural Bank of Alabat (Quezon), Inc.
       –  Head Office address at Caliwara cor. Rizal Sts.,
             Brgy. 2, Alabat, Quezon
       –  Had 2 branches:
            Quezon cor. Plaridel Sts., Mauban, Quezon
            522 P. Enriquez St., Atimonan, Quezon
       –  Closed down by the BSP on July 28, 2016
       –  Taken over by the PDIC on July 29, 2016

16.  Rural Bank of Claveria (Cagayan), Inc.

       –  Closed down by the BSP on  August 18, 2016

17.  Rural Bank Of Luna (Isabela), Inc.

       –  Had one branch, located at Sta. Maria, Isabela
       –  Closed down by the BSP on October 6, 2016
       –  Taken over by the PDIC on October 7, 2016

18.  Sampaguita Savings Bank, Inc.
       –  Head Office address at No. 10 J. Luna St.
             Brgy. Poblacion, City of San Pedro, Laguna
       –  Had one branch, located at No. 131 A. Bonifacio St.
             Canlalay, City of Biñan, Laguna.
       –  Closed down by the BSP on October 13, 2016
       –  Taken over by the PDIC on October 14, 2016

19.  Community Rural Bank Of Dingras (Ilocos Norte), Inc.
        –  Head Office address at Medina St. cor. Puruganan St.
              Brgy. Madamba (Poblacion), Dingras, Ilocos Norte
        –  Had 2 branches:
              – Poblacion, Paoay, Ilocos Norte
              – Delicia Center, Nalupta, City of Batac
        – Closed down by the BSP on November 3, 2016
        – Taken over by the PDIC on November 4, 2016

20.  Rural Bank Of Salinas, Inc.

        – Closed down by the BSP on November 11, 2016
        – Taken over by the PDIC on November 11, 2016

21.  Community Rural Bank of Magallon 
        (Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental), Inc.
        –  Office address at Gomez St., Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental
        –  Closed down by the BSP on November 17, 2016
        –  Taken over by the PDIC on November 18, 2016



22.   Xavier-Tibod Bank, Inc. (A Microfinance Rural Bank)
        –  Head Office address at Pabayo St., Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City
        –  Had one branch: National Highway, Brgy. Poblacion, Salay
                                   Misamis Oriental.
        –  Closed down by the BSP on December 1, 2016
        –  Taken over by the PDIC on November 2, 2016

23.  Eastern Rizal (JalaJala) Rural Bank, Inc.
        – Head Office address at C. Villaran St., Jalajala, Rizal
        – Had 2 branches:
        – E. Rodriguez Ave., Cainta, Rizal
        – 336 J.P. Rizal St., Brgy. Sta. Elena,
               Poblacion, Marikina
        – Closed down by the BSP on December 8, 2016
        – Taken over by the PDIC on November 9, 2016



Notes:
All in all, 22 banks were closed down  by the BSP in 2016. 
20 were rural banks and 3 were thrift banks.
One savings bank voluntarily surrendered its license.


The 2 thrift banks or savings banks that were closed down were:
   GSIS Family Bank and Sampaguita Savings Bank
 The thrift bank that surrendered its license was:
   Progress Savings voluntarily surrendered its banking license.
