BPI Savings Account Without Maintaining Balance -- BPI Easy Saver

By Nora
A savings account without maintaining balance?

Yes, BPI has launched its BPI Easy Saver account, a savings account without maintaining balance. It launched it as an easier way to save, as you can start with 200 pesos, and you can deposit small amounts.

It also forces you to "save" your savings, and encourages you not to withdraw your savings frequently.
Why not withdraw frequently? Because you are charged 5 pesos for every ATM withdrawal, and 100 pesos for over-the-counter withdrawal.

What can you use this BPI Easy Saver for?

- As a way to send allowance to your child in college.  Compared to the BPI Express Cash Card, this BPI Easy Saver is better. It's a savings account, so it earns interest and is PDIC-insured. It's also cheaper -- the ATM card is 50 pesos, and the withdrawal fee is 5 pesos. The Express Cash Card costs 150 pesos and its withdrawal fee is 15 pesos.

- As a remittance account

- As a regular savings account

How to Open an Easy Saver Account

- Go to a BPI or BPI Family branch.

- Just like with any other bank savings account, bring:
  -- two valid IDs
-- photocopy of two valid IDs
  -- 1 1x1 ID picture
-- Bring also a bill with your name and address (Meralco, PLDT, or a credit card bill) just in case the branch requires a proof of address. Some branches accept barangay clearance or certificate as proof of address.

- For students, bring extra documents, just in case the branch requires more documents:
  -- your school ID
-- current registration card or enrollment card
  -- NSO-issued birth certificate
-- barangay clearance or certificate, or any proof of your address (bill in the name of your father; your
      birth certificate shows your relationship)

If the branch is strict, inquire at another branch. Or at an Express branch at a mall.
Or simply go to another bank. There are a lot of banks. And if you have time, please comment here or on other banking blogs about banks and bank branches that require lots of documents.

- Pay 50 pesos for the Express Teller ATM card.

- Deposit at least 200 pesos.

Are There Other Fees I Need to Know?

- You're charged 5 pesos for every withdrawal from a BPI ATM machine. You're charged more for withdrawals from other banks' ATM machines.
- You also pay this 5-peso-charge for every fund transfer and bill payment via your BPI Internet banking.

* This account is good for those who are not yet able to maintain the minimum balance requirement for regular bank accounts.
It's better to pay 5 pesos for every withdrawal than paying 300 pesos a month as penalty for not maintaining the balance requirement for 2 consecutive months.
What you'll do is to plan your withdrawals so you don't get deducted many 5s.

What if I only have 1 valid ID?
Be on the lookout for BPI Easy Saver promos in schools, supermarkets, malls, fairs or other events.  Usually, during promos, BPI officers accept only 1 ID.  Try also applying at BPI Express Centers in malls or near malls.

  4. About INACTIVITY or NO TRANSACTION:
Hi Mark, if you can use your atm card at the atm machine, that means your account is still active. Deposit to it and save. If your balance was zero when you performed atm balance inquries, your new balance might be deducted with 5 peso per atm balance inquiry.

    ReplyDelete
  5. About money transfer from payroll account to Easy Saver: Yes, you're right. You indeed can save remittance fees. At LBC, you pay 100 pesos for sending 2k and 150 pesos for 3k in Luzon and and higher fees for higher amounts. The other local remittance services like Cebuana, Palawan, ML Lhuillier or Western Union charge about the same fees.

  6. About Expiry of BPI Easy Saver card:
There's no expiration date on the atm card. And I haven't read any rule about Easy Saver's expiration. But if you do not make any deposit or withdrawal within 2 years, your account will become dormant, and if there's no balance, it might be closed.

QUESTION: BPI said there's no fee for balance inquiries made at BPI, but online commenters say there's a fee and many hidden charges. Is that true cause I wanna make sure this Easy Saver is okay before i open an account. And last, is there a charge if i change my account pw in bpi online that naiddl at playstore? I need answers. Thanks:)
    ANSWER:
There's a 5-peso fee for every atm withdrawal and for every balance inquiry at BPI atms. Additional charge of 15 pesos at non-BPI atms.
Making a transfer or payment ONLINE costs also 5 pesos for every transfer or every payment.
    Balance inquiry ONLINE is free.
Changing your password has no charge.
You can use your online banking to pay online stores that are merchant-affiliated with BPI. If not, you can use third-party services like Dragon Pay.

  11. About HSBC UK transfer to BPI Easy Saver:
Yes, you can do the online transfer, ask your husband's username and password.
If your husband's HSBC UK account is HSBC Premier or HSBC Advance, use Global Transfers.
If not, use Priority Payments. The charge is 4 pounds plus BPI's charge. It might take 5 days before the money is credited to your account. I suggest that you don't transfer a big amount as this is your first time to transfer online.
BPI Swift code or BIC code is BOPIPHMM.
We'd appreciate it if you comment again here after your transaction.

  13. QUESTION from fuji Jan 7 2015
hi ate nors. did they really need to penalize my account even if I was able to return what I've withdrawn on the same month?
    ANSWER:
Hi fuji, the basis is the average daily balance for the month. For example, if the required maintaining balance is 3k, and you withdrew 2k in the first week of the month, then deposited 2k on the 3rd week, you were not able not maintain your balance because there are days that your balance is below 3k.

Banks deduct 300 pesos if you failed to maintain your required balance for 2 consecutive months.

BPI Easy Saver does not have a maintaining balance requirement.

  15. QUESTION from eofil Jan 20 2015:
Hi, nors, im working in Saudi Arabia. how many months before my account becomes closed or deactivated if I'm not able to deposit? How can I know if it's still active? thanks
    ANSWER:
Is your account BPI Easy Saver? If yes, BPI did not specify the number of months. But most accounts in the Phils become dormant and later closed (if balance is 0.00) after 2 years of no deposit and no withdrawal. But of course, try to deposit to your account every few months, or every month, so you can save money.
Is your account a regular account? If yes, you need to maintain your monthly average daily balance (MADB) requirement. If not maintained for 2 consecutive months, your account is charged 300 pesos at the end of the 2nd consecutive month, and every month thereafter that the MADB is not maintained. If the account balance reaches 0.00 or negative, the account will automatically close.
How to know your account balance or if your account is active? Of course if you're in the Phils, or if your atm is in the Phils, you can inquire at an atm machine. But if not, try to email your bank and ask. For BPI, try this email: expressonline@bpi.com.ph I'm not sure though if they're responding to account balance inquiries via email.

How much is the maintaining balance for BPI express teller international atm?
    ANSWER:
If it's a regular atm savings account, the maintaining balance requirement is:
    BPI = 3,000 pesos
    BPI Family = 1,000 pesos
    BPI Direct = 500 pesos
BPI Easy Saver = zero maintaining balance, but there's 5-peso atm withdrawal/balance inquiry fee

  19. hi, I have just applied for easy saver account on bpi last january 20, 2015. My initial deposit was 1000. After a few weeks, i tried to withdraw money from it but it says, insufficient funds. So weei tried to ask manong guard, kasi close na yung bpi, 6pm na. Sabi ng guard 1 month after before i can withdraw money. Then this second week of february nagdeposit ako atleast 500 pesos. after a few days i tried to withdraw ulit pero ganun ulit, insuffiecient funds. Pero i inquire ng balance 1500 siya. Is it true na 1 month after bago ako makapag withdraw ng money? I am hoping for your response immediately.

  20. About BPI Easy Saver Withdrawal
It's my first time to come to know of this policy, if indeed this is their new policy. Maybe there had been depositors who went to BPI to make inquiry, so the manong guard came to know about it.
Anyway, your balance inquiry shows your money is in your account. If after a month, and you still cannot withdraw your money, then go to BPI and ask.
If indeed BPI implemented this new policy, they should have informed you as a new depositor, for transparency. It's a good policy -- to teach people to save -- but depositors should be informed.

  25. QUESTION from Anonymous about unmaintained account March 2 2015
helo po. I have bpi atm savers account with maintaining balance of 3k, but I have not deposited to it for 9 months. is there any possibility that the maintaining balance requirement is removed and can I still use my account for deposits and withdrawals? I hesitate to deposit because it might have been deactivated already. How do I know if it's still active? I don't have online banking
    ANSWER:
Have you tried making balance inquiry via atm? Try it at a BPI atm. Most likely, your account is already closed. The maintaining balance penalty is 300 pesos per month, so if you have no money there, your account has most likely reached zero or negative and was most likely closed.
You can open a BPI Easy Savers account, the account type described above in the post.

Hi vhernard, you need to have 2 valid IDs. If you're a student, you can present your school ID, and your current registration card, or your library card and your barangay certification plus 2 ID pictures. If you're not a student, you can apply for the new digitized postal ID and hope BPI accepts this postal ID. Many banks stopped recognizing the old laminated postal ID when they found out many people can get fake postal IDs.

    ANSWER:
Is your account BPI Easy Saver? Or a BPI regular atm savings account? No, there's no deduction.
But make sure that you deposit or withdraw within 24 months, as a savings account becomes dormant if without transaction within 24 months.
It's good that you are saving, and you are not withdrawing your money.

  43. QUESTION about maximum BPI Easy Saver deposit June 18, 2015
Hi, how much is the maximum deposit to a bpi savers account? Then I have an old bpi with locked pin. How can I unlock my old bpi which is in cainta branch, I'm here in Batangas, tanauan or sto Tomas. That has 500, it's a waste if I don't get it.
    ANSWER:
You can deposit as much as you can to your Easy Saver account. Basically, there is no maximum limit. But of course, if you deposit hundreds of thousands or more frequently, the bank will ask for your source of income to comply with money laundering laws.
About your PIN, have you tried using your PIN again? If you can no longer remember your correct PIN, the remedy is to go to the branch where you opened your account with your IDs. Or you can try asking a BPI branch there in your area if you can withdraw over the counter and pay an over-the-counter withdrawal fee.

  44. QUESTION about dormancy June 27, 2015
HELLO i'm don. I want to ask about my savings. I don't know about what they're saying about dormancy. I'm worried because it's been almost two years that I have not withdrawn from it, but I've been depositing to it up to now. And I always check my savings online. Will my account become dormant if I don't withdraw within 2 years?
    ANSWER:
Hi don, your account is active. And you're a good saver because you just keep on depositing without withdrawing. Keep on saving without withdrawing.
A savings account becomes dormant if it does not have a deposit or a withdrawal within 2 years. In your case, you are depositing regularly, so your account will not become dormant. Even if you are not making any withdrawal, as long as you are making deposits, your account will remain active, and it will not become dormant.

  47. Hi Ana Marie, yes, the Easy Saver is still available. That branch may have become picky with their Easy Saver customers, especially if many have opened Easy Saver accounts there, and then did not use them. In other branches, you can open an Easy Saver without a company endorsement, just by telling them you want to save. But usually if they come to know that the account is for salary payout, they indeed require company endorsement. Try going in another day, and talking to another bank officer. Tell them you're opening the account because you want to save. Or if there's another BPI branch there, try going there.

  48. Hi po, pwede po ba yung account ko if ever for salary payout?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi Ana Marie, if your company instructed you to open your account by yourself, then yes, you give your BPI account no. to your company, and it's your company that will deposit your salary into your account.

  50. Thanks so much! Hope it would help the next time I visit BPI. Just want to clarify, my (if ever) easy saver account is like a regular account in which my company abroad can also deposit my salary to?

    ReplyDelete
  51. So parang regular account lang po yung easy saver account ko na yung company ko abroad dun idedeposit yung salary ko?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi Ana Marie, yes, Easy Saver is just like a regular savings account to which anyone can deposit into, whether over the counter locally or through remittance from abroad. The only difference is the 5-peso atm withdrawal and 5-peso atm balance inquiry fee and its lack of maintaining balance requirement.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hello po, sabi naman po ng BPI nung tumawag ako yung easy saver po is for savings lang not for salary payout po. Kasi mamomonitor naman daw po nila yun kung gaana kalaki yung pumapasok sa account.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Question from Ana Marie, I called BPI and I was told that Easy Saver is for savings only and not for salary payout. They can monitor how much money is being deposited to the account.
    ANSWER:
Hi Ana Marie, yes, I told you also that Easy Saver is for savings only, but for small businesses that have only 2 or 3 employees, they can use this Easy Saver by instructing their employees to open an account by themselves. Obviously, small businesses cannot yet open business accounts.
But it is different if it's a bigger company, and there are more employees. The company should open a business account with the banks so that their employees can open regular savings accounts (as payroll accounts) without employees needing to maintain required balances. It will be the company that will maintain their business account. This is the reason why many banks do not allow depositors to deposit to more than 2 or 3 accounts (different names) over the counter at one time (when it can seem that the depositor is depositing salaries).
In your case, you can still open an Easy Saver for foreign remittance. It's just like an OFW sending money to your account. But since it seems that you'll be receiving big amounts, and so you don't have to worry, and you don't have to pay the 5-peso atm withdrawal/balance inquiry fee, open the regular atm account (3,000 maintaining balance requirement). Make sure to maintain at least 3k in your account. Treat it as your long-time savings. Add to it from time to time.

  55. Hi. I just want to ask what will I do if the account is dormant? Thanks!

  56. What to do if account is dormant

  57. Does it require proof of income?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Question about need for proof of income
Do you mean to ask if proof of income is needed to open an Easy Saver account? No, proof of income is not needed. But if you have proof of address like Meralco or phone bill, bring it to support your ID, but if none, your valid photo IDs and ID picture will be enough.

  62. Difference between Easy Saver and time deposit in terms of interest rate: I know you already know that time deposit rates are much higher than regular savings rates. 63. Question about TIN number in opening a bank account, Aug 12, 2015:
I approached one of the branch here in cebu it's branch colon. im with me all the requirements that you listed then they did not accept because something is missing. They're asking for my TIN #. Is that really needed?
    ANSWER:
TIN is needed because the interests of deposits are being taxed.
If you're already working, the bank will expect that you already have your TIN. But if you're still a student, and you're using your school ID to open your account, I think the bank should excuse you from having TIN. My daughter was able to open her Easy Saver even without TIN, when she was still studying.
If you're already 20 or 21 or older, you need to get your TIN, as you need this when you apply for work. You can request for your TIN online for free. Go to bir.gov.ph. Try non-peak hours like dawn hours.

Hi Soy Sauce03, there could be a lot of Easy Saver applicants, so it takes a longer time. Other banks usually take one week.

    1. About banks' adverse action notice list or negative list : Sorry I don't work with BPI. Try to apply for an Easy Saver account. Then if they deny you, try other banks. Try a smaller savings bank or a rural bank; I think many smaller banks do not yet have access to the negative lists of bigger banks.

  77. About BPI Express Teller PIN change October 30, 2015
Regarding bpi express teller, I changed my pin within the change-PIN period, and it was successful. Now I am withdrawing, and this error appears: pin length/invalid account type/no account. Is it possible my card was deactivated?
    ANSWER:
Try balance inquiry, and if your balance appears, this means you're allowed only for balance inquiry for the meantime. Call BPI 89-100 so you can confirm to them that it was you who changed your PIN. Be ready with your account no., other personal info, and the date and time when you changed your PIN.
I've been a BPI account owner for years, and when I changed my PIN recently, I also had to call BPI before I could withdraw.

Can we withdraw for example 250php, 220php or 270php from our easy savers account? Thank you.
    ANSWER:
From the atm machine, no, you cannot withdraw those amounts because the smallest bill in the atm is the 100-peso bill. There's no 20-peso or 50-peso bill in the atm machine.
If you withdraw over the counter, you can withdraw those amounts, but you will pay a fee because your account is atm-based.
If you like to use your balance including the cents, you can use your atm to pay your purchase at a store or supermarket that has a Megalink or Express Net swipe system.

Need your help po. Here at bpi, why do they require a tin number. I don't have it. It's a requirement here at bpi tanza cavite. Help po
    ANSWER:
Hi Kimberly, check this BIR Eregistration from time to time, and if this page is active again, apply for your eTIN online.
Banks require TIN because they use it for the 20%-withholding-tax that they deduct from interest earned.
Some banks do not require TIN if what you present is a student ID with current school registration card.

  83. OFW FROM KUWAIT, about remittances to BPI account November 13, 2015
May I ask about bpi xpress international. What if my remittances are not deposited to my account? Or what if one remittance does not get credited? Is there a way to remedy it? But there's a receipt per transaction. By the way, I have not changed my PIN for 2 years. But I have been depositing frequently to my account. Thanks a lot po. god bless
    ANSWER:
Are you using a BPI remittance partner to send money from Kuwait? Remittance is better with partners.
Enroll in BPI online banking so you can check your account balance. Prepare your user name and a strong password. This is how toenroll in BPI online banking while abroad. When successfully enrolled, always logout after using, and if using public computers, always clear history.
If later on you use a smartphone for your online banking, it's advisable that you do not activate the Send Money to an Unenrolled Account. Anyway, this cannot be activated while you're abroad because the activation is completed using a BPI atm machine.

  84. Hi! I availed easy saver last nov 11 in our school. The assistant said that i can only change pin on the dates of nov 17 and 18. When I read the letter they have given me, it says 2 banking days. So I change my pin Nov 13 but transaction not allowed. Then day 18 came, I also change the pin but in BPI not in family savings bank because I don't know where I could change the pin, it also said that the transaction wasnt allowed and i have no record in bpi. So today this morning, I changed my pin in family savings bank but again, transaction not allowed. I insert the card again for the last time to change the pin and it says, pin incorrect. What should I do??? I hope you understand me and thanks you if you will answer me. :)

Do we need to perform balance inquiry before withdrawing from an atm machine?
    ANSWER:
No, you don't need to make a balance inquiry. You can withdraw immediately. But if you are withdrawing from atm machines very far from your place, or if it's night time or weekends/holidays, it is wise to make a balance inquiry first, in case the machine is out of order, or in case there's a glitch.

I was intending to use it for sending my wage to my mom because I thaought my mom's account is not acceptable in my employer. however my mom's account was accepted by my employer thus the remittance goes directly to her account nalang. So, i have forgotten about this one. Can I ask of what would be the status of this account? Am i going to pay for not depositing for almost 5 months already starting from opening the account? or will it be deactivated??? or what?

ask lang po ako kung pang student lang ba itong BPI Easy Saver? sana po magreply kayo? Thank You! God Bless!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hello, no, it's not exclusively for students. Easy Saver is for anyone who is not yet able to maintain a certain amount of money in the account everyday, as long as he/she has valid IDs to present. Because it does not require a maintaining balance, it charges 5 pesos for every atm withdrawal and every balance inquiry.
However, I think BPI will ask certain questions if you open an Easy Saver as a payroll account.

  105. Anyone familiar with old peso bill policy please comment below. Here is the story, I just came from BPI, Marian Fairview branch. I have an old peso bill, while I'm doing my withdrawal transaction, I apologently ask the teller 1 if I can exchange my old peso bill, to my surprise she said sarcastically "Hindi pwede, hindi ka ba aware sa new policy? Ang pwedeng lang ay ideposit!" I said to her " Ay, hindi po kasi sa news lang ako nag re-rely sabi nila pwede pa daw ipapalit sa mga banko pagdating ng 2016, so ang intindi ko pwede pa, nun pala deposit lang pwede." And suplada siya ha! Although it is only 50 peso bill mahalaga pa rin yun kasi kung ideposit ko siya sa atm account ko, hindi naman naglalabas ng 50pesos ang mga atm. And mind you if mag withdraw ako sa atm may charge na 5 pesos every withdrawal sa any bpi atm. MY POINT IS, HINDI BA PWEDENG PALITAN OVER THE COUNTER TUTAL MAY ACCOUNT NAMAN AKO SA KANILA at HINDI BA PWEDENG I APPROACH NG MABUTI ANG CLIENT! Haist! First Monday of the New Year and first bank transaction of the New Year but so disappointed.

  115. Shanelle Marquez Bartolome, about maintaining balance for BPI Express International January 23, 2016
It has been almost 2 months that my atm has only P0.75. Will it close? If it's closed, what should I do? Especially now that my aunt sent me money from Kuwait. How much is the maintaining balance for BPI express teller international?
    ANSWER:
Is your account a BPI Easy Saver account? If yes, your account is active. Easy Saver does not require a maintaining balance.
Is your account a regular atm savings account? If yes, you can reactivate your account if it's already closed.
Make a balance inquiry using your atm card. If your account is closed, you will see "Account is closed" or "Account is inactive". Visit your BPI branch and reactivate it. You will pay 300 pesos to pay for the below-maintaining-balance-penalty. Deposit also some money.
The maintaining balance requirement for a regular BPI atm savings account is 3,000 pesos. If you like BPI but you cannot yet maintain 3,000 pesos, open an atm savings account at BPI Family -- maintaining balance is only 1,000.

Total Balance has 500 pesos more than Available Balance. Can I withdraw that balance using ATMs po? Cus I heard that Easy Savers has 0 maintaining balance.

    1. Available balance
You can withdraw up to the available balance only. Usually banks put on hold 300 pesos or more for newly opened bank accounts in case account holders close them less than one month after opening. After one month, they make this 300 pesos available for withdrawal.
