BPI Savings Account Without Maintaining Balance -- BPI Easy Saver

12.22.2011

A savings account without maintaining balance?

Yes, BPI has launched its BPI Easy Saver account, a savings account without maintaining balance. It launched it as an easier way to save, as you can start with 200 pesos, and you can deposit small amounts.

It also forces you to "save" your savings, and encourages you not to withdraw your savings frequently.
Why not withdraw frequently? Because you are charged 5 pesos for every ATM withdrawal, and 100 pesos for over-the-counter withdrawal.

What can you use this BPI Easy Saver for?

- As a way to send allowance to your child in college.  Compared to the BPI Express Cash Card, this BPI Easy Saver is better. It's a savings account, so it earns interest and is PDIC-insured. It's also cheaper -- the ATM card is 50 pesos, and the withdrawal fee is 5 pesos. The Express Cash Card costs 150 pesos and its withdrawal fee is 15 pesos.

- As a remittance account

- As a regular savings account

How to Open an Easy Saver Account

- Go to a BPI or BPI Family branch.

- Just like with any other bank savings account, bring:
  -- two valid IDs
  -- 2 1x1 ID pictures
-- Bring also a bill with your name and address (Meralco, PLDT, or a credit card bill) just in case the branch requires a proof of address. Some branches accept barangay clearance or certificate as proof of address.

- For students, bring extra documents, just in case the branch requires more documents:
  -- your school ID
-- current registration card or enrollment card
  -- NSO-issued birth certificate
-- barangay clearance or certificate, or any proof of your address (bill in the name of your father; your
      birth certificate shows your relationship)
Marami namang banks. And then kung meron kang time, mag-comment dito o sa ibang banking blogs about banks that require lots of documents.

- Pay 50 pesos for the Express Teller ATM card.

- Deposit at least 200 pesos.

Are There Other Fees I Need to Know?

- You're charged 5 pesos for every withdrawal from a BPI ATM machine. You're charged more for withdrawals from other banks' ATM machines.
- You also pay this 5-peso-charge for every fund transfer and bill payment via your BPI Internet banking.

Mas mura na yong 5 pesos per withdrawal kesa yong 300 pesos a month na penalty for not maintaining the balance requirement.

Nors said...

Hi jerry, apply for your SSS ID. I heard their processing has become faster now. If you have paid at least one contribution, you can apply. Bring your voter's ID. You can also apply for a postal ID. Other banks accept voter's ID and postal ID. Meanwhile, look out for BPI Easy Saver account opening promos at supermarkets or malls.

krisha aquino said...

do they accept nbi clearance only?

Nors said...

Hi krisha, sorry that's not enough. You need to show a photo ID. Get a postal ID, but some branches prefer an SSS ID over a postal ID.

Anonymous said...

i have a postal id,is that enough?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

sa easy saver po, how long it take po para magamit ito,at pwedi po ba magpagawa ng bank cheque or manager's cheque gamit ang account na yan?salamat po

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, yes, you can use your account immediately; you can deposit to it immediately. However, the atm card may take a day after you enter your PIN before you can use it.
Yes, you can use this account to buy manager's or cashier's check. But deposit money to it first because you will use this account to pay for the check.

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, about IDs: they may accept postal ID and another ID (school ID, company ID).
If barangay clearance and postal ID only, I'm not sure; some branches are stricter than others. But you can always try; get in the bank branch and ask the new accounts tellers.

Anonymous said...

Hi, are the two valid ID's should have my present address?I'll bring my passport and company ID.

But my address is not indicated in my company ID.

Also, do they accept telephone bill?

Thank you!

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, your passport and company ID are valid IDs. Bring 2 ID pictures. The 2 IDs should be enough, but if you have a phone bill, bring it just in case they ask for it.

Anonymous said...

Hello . Thanks

Nors said...

If the bills are not in your name, you cannot use them. If you have 2 valid IDs, you try opening an account. Not all branches or bank officers require bills. I think they ask for bills only if they feel the types of IDs you have shown are not sufficient to prove your identity.

Nors said...

Yes, your sender abroad can send money for deposit to your BPI Easy Saver. Make sure your sender has the correct name, name of bank, and account no.

Anonymous said...

Hi, Good day! Is it ok to deposit a check in bpi easy saver? Thanks.

Nors said...

Yes, it's a savings account, so it can accept a check. Account name and check payee's name should be the same.

hi. i just applied my bpi savers in bpi banking center at greeenhills last saturday. my first transaction is on sunday when I tried to change my pin but system or the machine message - this transaction is not allowed. i tried to change pin to other atm but same message appeared. when i asked a person on where i applied, the person said "sa glorietta po or sa greenbelt nyo lang po yan mapapalitan ng pin kasi dun lang ang pwede". i felt so disappointing when she said that. i applied on that center because i was already there and also tried bpi services coz i have other bank savings. yes it was easy to apply and get the card instantly but what about changing the pin number? until now i still not able to change the pin because of my work. sayang naman yung little amount that i deposited. what will happen to it? is it true that i can only change the pin number at glorietta and greenbelt? is there other places aside from makati where i could change the pin number? thank you very much.

Nors said...

About PIN change:
Hi Anonymous, I don't know what to say because it's the first time I've read that you can't change your PIN in Greenhills or any other place or city. What I can say immediately is that BPI now has different atm machines, some are for cash deposits only, some are for deposits without atm cards, and some are regular atms. I think you can find a regular BPI atm there where you can withdraw -- I think this is a machine where you can change your PIN. I hope you can find one in Greenhills so you don't have to go to Greenbelt. I'm not a BPI employee -- I'm just a long-time customer -- and I find it hard to believe that BPI will destroy its customer service by not having atms available for PIN change in all its services areas, especially a place like Greenhills. If that is so, we can call out BPI about this.

hi nors, to be honest i have great respect to bpi thats why i was really shocked when she told me those... what i did is that i went to bpi expressonline service in a mall then told them what was happened. actually there is also a person who had the same case like me. so what the person incharge did is that she gave me form to fillup and she encode it in the system. and then she said "ok na po ma'am, you can change your pin. use the same/temporary pin po. and then a minute or less, napalitan ko na po yung default pin. i hope that this scenario will not happen to other people who plans to have their savings in bpi.

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, thanks for commenting again. I don't know why the employee in the express center where you got your card does not know how to suggest remedies in case of things such as you have experienced. There must be something amiss with BPI's training system. I hope this is just an isolated case. At least BPI's image was saved by the employee in another express center. best regards

hello good am..i have read all the comments for this site.and me questions din po ako i just came here in manila last june 2012,then i was planning to make a bank account yung di po ganun kabigat sa bulsa in order for me to save money po.then what i have po is a postal id lang and dun pa po galing palawan yun, aside from that wala na po.meron po ko sss e1 form, wala po id kasi me nagsabi sakin na di daw makakakuha ng sss id unless hulugan ng employer.about proof of billing din po,wala ako kasi nakikitira lang din po ako sa di ko relatives.panu po yun?

Ariel Tan said...

Nors said...

Hi safirah, do you have a company ID? Usually, banks look for 2 valid IDs, and if you have 2, they no longer require proof of address.

Nors said...

Hi Ariel, yes, this savings account can be enrolled in bpiexpressonline

Anonymous said...

may possibility b na materminate ang account

Anonymous said...

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, BPI has not published a rule about a specific no. of transactions in a year, but I think at least one transaction in 6 months is enough. An account gets dormant when there's no transaction within 2 years.

Jessa Vidal said...

hi po, ask ko lng kung pwede bah gamitin ang easy saver sa paypal? kailangan ko pang e.verify paypal ko and along the process its asking if what card type ang meron? wla nmn nakalagay sa card kung mastercard ito or visa? help po. di ko ma verify paypal ko eh. paki reply po agad. :(

Anonymous said...

You need to have Unionbank account it is visa card already and you can use it for your paypal account. i think it costs 250 pesos.

Anonymous said...

Addition: you can sign up for unionbank Eon Card online. heres the link http://www.unionbankph.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2037&Itemid=861

Nors said...

Anonymous, thanks for answering Jessa's question. Two other options are BPI prepaid Mastercard http://www.banksphilippines.com/2012/01/bpi-prepaid-card-my-eprepaid-mastercard.html
and Smart Money (the new version)
Going back to your first question: No, sorry, you cannot use BPI Easy Saver to verify your Paypal.

Nors said...

Hi joy, I think you cannot open a BPI account in the Philippines through a representative; account opening must be in person. As far as I know, the only times when BPI grants account opening by mail are if you're applying for a BPI Europe account in the UK and for a BPI Direct account in Bahrain, HK, Italy, Spain, UAE and the U.S. I'll check if there's a PNB Switzerland

Nors said...

Hi joy, I checked PNB, and it has already shifted its activities in Europe from banking to purely remittance.

Nors said...

Hi joy, you can ask these BDO partners if they're offering BDO Kabayan account opening: banksphilippines.com
I hope you can share your experience later on. Thanks and best regards

thank you...pero walang open account dito switzerland ask din ako sa bdo pinas if pwde pero hindi rin pwde if hindi personal..thnx

Hi Nors, nasa Suadi Arabia ang brother. ano bpi account ang pwede ko iopen for his account? Possible ba na ako yung maging representative to apply for his new bpi account? If not, pano sya magkaroon ng bpi account here in the Philippines, Ano need niya gawin? Ano requirements? thanks.

Anonymous said...

pwede ba dito ang joint account?

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, yes, I think so, as long as the two of you are present and both of you have valid IDs

Anonymous said...

fatima zahra said...

hello..my bpi atm has no transaction for 10 months, puede pa bang magdeposit in that account?

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (about deposit of 200), it should be there in your account right after deposit. Is this account just opened? You can check your balance 24 hours after changing your PIN. Balance inquiry fee for this type of account is 5 pesos.

Nors said...

Hi fatima, is this BPI Easy Saver? Are you here in the Philippines? Try making a balance inquiry (but this requires a balance of at least 5 pesos since there's a balance inquiry fee of 5 pesos for this typeof account), or try making a deposit. The teller will not accept the deposit if the account is already closed.

Anonymous said...

Hi Nors...i changed my PIN yesterday afternoon and checked the balance this morning through my bpi online (i enrolled it as additional account)..i'll be checking again later...the balance inquiry fee of P5 is in ATM machines, right?..thanks

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (about balance inquiry), yes, there's no balance inquiry fee online. But the 5-peso fee is also imposed on funds transfer and bills payment online.

Anonymous said...

Hi Nors, nasa Suadi Arabia ang brother ko. ano bpi account ang pwede ko iopen for his account? Possible ba na ako yung maging representative to apply for his new bpi account?thanks

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, you cannot open your brother's BPI account in his behalf. He should open his own account in person. What you can open is your own account. If he likes to open a Philippine bank account, there are BDO remittance partners in Saudi Arabia that accepts account opening for BDO Kabayan: BDO Saudi

Anonymous said...

Nors said...

Hi sorry I haven't tried that or haven't read about something like that, but you can try enrolling in Internet banking, since your account is already active, and it takes time before they email you back. For mobile baking, I think you need to activate your atm card first. Perhaps you can share here later on what happened. best regards

Anonymous said...

Pwede po ba mag deposit ng amount like 450 pesos

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, yes, you can deposit that amount.
If you like, you deposit 4 pieces of 100 pesos into a BPI deposit machine. best regards.

Nors said...

Hi Lucky, yes, you bring your school ID and latest school registration card, if you have, plus ID picture plus any other ID that you have. If you have a remittance receipt in your name, it also helps, as proof of address and future remittance to your account.

Gud pm..wla po ba limit e deposit ot transfer sa easy saver?..khit 1M or more pwde?

Anonymous said...

NORS. pano po ba mag depositng check? what are those steps? baka kasi mag muka akong tanga pag kaharap ko na yung machine :) thanks.

Anonymous said...

hi. Close na ung atm express teller ko. Would you advice to have it re-opened, make a new account or itong easy saver mas marecommend mo? Thanks! :)

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (about deposit limit), no, there's no deposit/remittace/transfer limit for this account. But if you have already accumulated a big amount, it's best to transfer it to a time deposit so it will earn much more, and check out the mutual funds of BPI and BDO, so you can invest also in mutual funds.

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (about eps fee), yes, there's a 5-peso fee for every eps transaction. There's no fee for depositing over the counter. You can also use BPI deposit machines -- also free.

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (about reopening closed accounts). If the account has been closed for over many months, I think you can no longer reactivate it. If it was closed this month or last month, there's a chance you can reactivate it, but you will pay a penalty of 300 or 600 pesos.
BPI Easy Saver is good for students or new grads or first-time employees because it does not require a maintaining balance. The 5-peso atm withdrawal, balance inquiry or eps fee is better than paying 300 pesos or more for not being able to maintain the monthly average daily balance.

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous (depositing a check). Are you referring to the BPI Easy Assistant machine? The machine is a way to get a queu number. The transaction is completed at the counter. Just relax when you're infront of the machine. Many others had their first time.
First, tap the screen, so the menu will appear. Choose Deposit, Withrawal, Encashment, Payment, etc. If you will deposit the check, you will enter the account number and amount of check. If
encashment, you will probably enter amount and check no.
I experienced only Deposit, so I don't know the complete menu for the others. But you will be able to do it. The machine will issue a small while slip with a Number. That's your queu number. Wait for your number to be called, or look from time to time at the digital screen where numbers are being flashed. Go to the counter when your number is called or flashed.

HI Nors, nag-open ako ng new account BPI Easy Saver. Ilan days sya pwede makuha dun sa branch?

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

How about naman po s passbook and atm? Mgkano po ung balance n kailangan imaintain? At how much po ung s requirement? Thanks in advance po.

Anonymous said...

how much is the minimum amount if ill be going to deposit using easy saver?

Anonymous said...

Nors said...

Hi Many Anonymous:
- BPI Easy Saver account does not require a maintaining balance
- After opening, you can get the atm card usually after 5 days or a week. They will instruct you. The number of days changes.
- BPI did not say the minimum amount for deposit. But I think you can deposit at least 100 pesos. But I suggest deposit at least 500 pesos so your effort and time is well spent. You can use BPI cash deposit machines -- they accept 100, 500 and 1000 peso bills.
- For joint accounts, the 2 or 3 persons who want the joint account should all be there in person to open the account, with their valid IDs, ID pics and proof of address, such as bills, in case they ask. Joint accounts have the same maintaining balance requirements as those for single-owner accounts.
- A regular BPI Passbook account requires a maintaining balance of 10k. I suggest you try first the ATM savings account (maintaining balance of 3k - BPI or 1k - BPI Family) and see if you can maintain an account. This way you can prove to yourself that you can maintain a passbook account.

Anonymous said...

Hi! I am an online seller. Can my clients send their payments through my BPI Easy Saver account?

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, yes, your clients can deposit their payments into your account over the counter at any BPI branch without paying an interbranch fee.

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for the prompt reply!

Anonymous said...

how much is the interest di ko po kasi alamg kung halimbawa may 700 pa laman ang atm

Nors said...

Hi Anonymous, the interest is negligible -- 0.25% per year. And you should maintain at least 1k in your account before it earns interest. The best use for this account is to save and then after you have saved a lot, put your savings in time deposit.

Anonymous said...

Good morning,

pwede ko ba malaman ano ano ang mga requirements for my son who is 1 year and 2 months?

Anonymous said...

Yes, pwede ba namin malaman kung ano yung mga requirements kung sakali gusto namin mag open ng savings account for are kids?

thanks.

Nors said...

Hello, for children who cannot yet sign, you're going to open In-Trust-For (ITF) accounts. Parents would be the principal account owners. I'm not sure if they offer ITF BPI Easy Saver accounts.
Regular opening requirements are 2 valid IDs and 2 1x1 ID pictures. There are branches that require proof of address such as Meralco, PLDT or water bills.

For kids who can fill up bank forms, the requirements would be birth certificate, school ID, registration card, and ID pictures.

There are bank accounts designed for children and teenagers:

Hello. I just want to ask if I can withdraw a big amount over the counter even if I only have an ATM. Thanks..

Nors said...

About OTC withdrawal: Yes, it is allowed. If you're withdrawing less than 20k pesos, you'll pay 100 pesos. If more than 20k, it should be free because the atm daily withdrawal limit is 20k (except for BPI Maxi One accounts).

ask ko lng kung pwede may mgttransfer saken ng money sa ibang bnsa using her account there para ttransfer ng money sa account ko sa easy saver?

Anonymous said...

hi,can i ask how much ang pwedeng i withdraw using bpi easy savers using atm? :)
thank you :)

Nors said...

About atm withdrawal amount: The minimum amount for BPI accounts is 500 pesos. For BPI Family account, the minimum is 200 pesos. Maximum atm withdrawals in a day = 6 times

Nors said...

About money transfer direct from bank abroad: Your sender can do that if his/her bank is US-based; they can use Xoom, Wells Fargo, Lucky Money or Western Union or Moneygram.
For other countries, they can do wire transfer at their banks.
For Australia, wire transfer or mhits:

I have postal ID,birth certificate from NsO and 1by1 pic. is that enough for BPI atm application?

Anonymous said...

I have a Voter's ID and barangay clearance. Are they enough as requirements to open an easy savers acct? Thanks!

Nors said...

About opening account: Usually, they ask for 2 valid IDs, so I'm not sure if they accept those. Voter's ID and postal ID are valid IDs. Yes, NSO and barangay clearance can help. Bring a utility bill as proof of address. Try applying with what you have -- sometimes it depends on the branch or on the bank officer serving you.
If you are students, they are more considerate because bank officers understand that students usually have their school ID only plus their NSO certificate.

Anonymous said...

just ask to how much the bank of atm?

Anonymous said...

Hi! Do they accept NBI Clearance as ID?

Nors said...

About where to deposit: You can deposit at any BPI branch.

Nors said...

About 10 months without any deposit: BPI has no definite rule about it, but I think your account is still active.
You try depositing -- the teller won't accept your account is already closed.

Nors said...

About NBI clearance: You should have other IDs. NBI clearance is in the list of valid IDs, but banks want additional photo IDs. Some tellers also require proof of address such as Meralco or PLDT bill.

Nors said...

About enrolling this account in bpiexpressonline.com: Yes, you can register this account. Any debit (deduction) of money from this account will incur a 5-peso charge -- online, atm, store, supermarket, etc.
Over-the-counter withdrawal charge is a no-no because the charge is 100 pesos.
